Kuvempu University, the youngest affiliating university in Karnataka (established in 1987) has launched a massive developmental plan in order to become a centre of excellence in higher education and research. The university plans to make full use of its human resource potential, the knowledge base it has created over the years, its vicinity to the Western Ghats (one of the 18 hotspots of bio- diversity in the world), and its academic profile. Besides, the University proposes to establish a Centre of Excellence for the study of and the research in Indian culture and philosophy to spread the knowledge on spirituality and religiosity, yoga and meditation, worshipping nature as mother etc. This is aimed to realise the gospel truth, "..............In this century, Indias ancient thought and wisdom will conquer the world". ( Arnold Toynbee).

The development plans of the university include establishment of various other cetres of research - in computer science, bio-science, study of local cultures etc.), introduction innovative academic programmes, strengthening of the infra-structural facilities and construction of academic buildings. What we want to do is to show the world that pursuit of material and spiritual aspirations can very well go together, they are not bipolar opposites as it is made to appear in this consumerist world. The estimated cost of the d43evelopment plan is ten million dollars.

In financial front the university practices total transparency. All the works are carried through open tender system. However, the donors may take up construction of the building on their own, or through their nominated persons. We do accept donations in kind i.e., in the form of books and equipments. From the funds we collect not even a penny will be spent on administration. That means the entire donation we receive will be utilized for academic purpose. I request you to participate in the future of this young university. The honble Chief Minister of Karnataka has made an appeal to you on behalf of the university. Prof. K. Chidanandagowda, Vice-chancellor of Kuvempu University presently on a visit to the UK and the USA would be very happy to meet or get in touch with all those who may want to participate in the future of this young University
