|Whats in a Name ?|
|Naming and renaming is an endless controversy in India. Karnataka is no exception. This time two issues have cropped up.|
1)Even before Bangalore International Airport project takes off, Naming of the Airport is flying high.
2) Deputy Commissioner of Karwar District Mr. Nilay Mitash Has suggested Ravindranath Tagores name for Karwars peaceful Beach. He is collecting public opinion.
By what name do we call these two important landmarks in Karnataka?
Readers here emphatically assert "No politicians name, No religious leader name please"
Here are some responses;
Instead of any other names...
I choose :
Karvar coastal area => Karwar kadala theera
International air port => Bangalore international airport.
I propose these names for Roads:
I am exited that Karnataka Government want to honor literary figures naming the streets in Bangalore after them. I would like to propose two names of individuals who have helped spread Kannada beyond the boundaries of Karnataka State.
Sri. S.K.Harihareswara and Sri. Sheshadri Vasu. Karnataka will make all of us very proud considering these two names of very distinguished Kannadigas.
Aswath N. Rao,

Karavara Beach : Shivarama Kaaranth
Bangalore airport : Hampi airport
My choices are here !
My choices in the order of preference.
1. Sir M.Vishweshwaraiah
For Karwar Beach:
1. (Kadala Theerada Bhargava) Shivarama Karantha
Name eminent scholars of Karnataka
It is timely to name karnatakas eminent scholars name to streets in the capital city of karnataka. Let us choose the names that represent scholars from all regions of karnataka.
Not politicians name
Please have the names of Kadamba, chaluya, Pulikeshi, Hoysala as such to the airport, not the politicians.
Nanna Peertheya kanndegari..
Hesaralle yenu edhe?. hesarenalli namma naadena , soundarya , ithihas, aatma wishwasa edhe.
There is no better name than karant beach. And there will be no better name than Hoysala airport or, SIR Vishweshwaraiha Airport
Demonstrate our kannada pride
a name makes a statement about the person, institute, place or whatever.we have to demonstrate our kannada pride with our gateway to the outside world.
A person who has contributed to india in general and karnataka in particular should be honoured by having the airport named after him/her. sir m.visweswaraya and rani chenamma are two of the most suitable due to their contributions to indias economic freedom and political freedom struggle respectively.
come on people at least let us show our respect even if most of the history text books miss these great personalities.
The name should take the advantage of glorious victories in Tipu Sultan era. Devanhalli is brith place of Tipu Sultan. I will suggest!

I suggest Vishveshwaraihs name Form Airport
I always vote for naming either International Airport or Karwar Beech, aKannada name. Ofcourse the same sort of problem is here in hydrabad too. There was a road here earlier known as Visheshwaraih road now its beenrenamed as NTR Marg.
We have some gems with us so why go for others names? We should not eventhink of it. I suggest the airport to be names as Vishweshwaraiah Airport. If not kempegowda or Basaveshwara. For the Karwar beech there is no othername as good as Karanth.
The articles are presented superbly by kannada.oneindia.com. Thank you for that, oneindia.

I would suggest following names for Bangalore international airport
Shivaram karanth beach, basava airport
Karanth Beach would work, and is perhaps the most appropriate name for the beach as he was known as Kadalateerada Bhargava (dont know who gave him that name). Shivarama Karanth Beach just might work, but Kota Shivarama Karanth Beach or Kadalateerada Bhargava Shivarama Karanth Beach defiintely wont. We must learn to give short, easy to remeber names, and not try to squeeze a great persons entire life history into it! There could be a plaque at a prominent place explaining why the beach is named after him, giving significant details from his life and work.
True, airport/university names get entangled in caste disputes, but thats no reason not to honour our great people (they are, alas, born in some caste, even though they may later reject it!)
Basava Airport may work, not Jagajjyoti Bhakti Bhandari Basaveshwara Airport.
My vote goes to Basava Airport. It would be our way or reminding the world of one of the worlds most compassionate thinkers born in this region. No disprespect to Kempegowda or any one else, but would they compare with Basava in intellectual or moral stature? A bonus is that Basava is an easy word to pronounce because every other syllable is a vowel.
May this awareness increase
It is a good thing that people are reacting to the innumerable injustice being thrust on Kannada-Kannadiga and Karnataka. I feel we should take offensive measures and not just be defensive. We should tell administrators of our state that they have to safeguard the interests of Kannadigas first.
After all, it is their bounden duty. We should also tell our people that
they should react strongly against any injustice. May this awareness
increase among our people.
"Name goes a long way for Kannadigas"
Naming of Karwar Beach and International Airport : The names should belong to a Kannadiga. Bengalies think only about Bengalites names. Just like Kannadigas in Bangalore, giving room for other communities to take over. Self Respect is important for Kannadigas. Other States even does not think of Karnataka State and Kannada, Just like AIR not even thinking of KANNADA in its website. We Kannadigas think " WHAT IS IN A NAME?". Name goes a long way for Kannadigas. So Kanandigas have to fight for Kannada names only.
Kannada, Kannadigas and Karnataka State have been taken for granted by others. We have to wakeup before someone else start ruling Karnataka State.
