When whole Padubidri, Nandikooru & Kaapu area in Udupi Dist, counting every section of the society is protesting against the proposed Nagarjuna Power Project, NPCL with the help of some vested interest groups are trying to gather support for the project by dividing the society in name of caste and religion.

In fact the opposition for the project has come from all the political parties, religious clerics, environmental activists and people, who will be affected by this project from both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts.

The most disturbing fact is, those people who falsaely claim that they hail from affected area and are residing outside the state, in collaboration with the NPCL are supporting the project in the name of some Parisara Prema Mandali (?), through some odd likeminded news portals.

This coal based Nagarjuna Power Project has many drawbacks such as emitting Sulfur Dioxide Main cause of acid rain, Nitrogen Oxides Causes smog and acid rain, Carbon Dioxide Greenhouse gas suspected of causing global warming. Moreover, repeated inhalation of fly ash dust containing crystalline silica can cause bronchitis, silicosis (scarring of the lung), and lung cancer.

It may also increase the risk of scleroderma (a disease affecting the connective tissue of the skin, joints, blood vessels, and internal organs (Companys claim in reducing this pollution is ridiculous) The view of the Local Kannada dailies against this project is praiseworthy. They have understood the twinge and anguish of the people of affected area and have reported sensibly the atrocities of NPCL on local people, heeding neither to pressure, nor to carrot.

I humbly request Kannada Internet to continue their support to this movement of people comprising Farmers & Fishermen against Government and NPCL who are resposible for this environment hostile project.
