Marrow Drive at Sri Siva Vishnu Temple, MD: Sun: Oct 21st 11am - 5pm

Friends of a young Indian, Mr. Mohan are helping to win his fight against Leukemia (Blood Cancer). Please join in this cause. He is suffering from Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML), a kind of Blood Cancer and has entered into a Blast Crisis Stage. He needs to find a matching Marrow Donor as soon as possible for a Marrow Transplant, which is the only cure.

Prior to February 2001, when he was diagnosed with this life threatening disease, Mohans life couldnt have been any better. He has been married to his lovely wife Anjali for more than 10 years and they are blessed with 4-year-old twins (a boy, Neel & a girl, Maya). Add to that, he had a highly successful professional career, which was
progressing extremely well until fate cut this progress short.

It is impossible to imagine what he & his family are going through during these difficult times, but you can do your part to help them beat this otherwise fatal disease. You could be the one with the matching marrow that could give him the gift of life.

All you need to do is give a sample of your blood for HLA typing. If there is a match, 3 to 5% of stem cells will be collected, under anesthesia, from your marrow in the hip area. Your body will replenish the stem cells naturally within a few weeks and you may feel mild soreness in the back for a few days. Another way of collection is from your blood (peripheral blood cells), where no anesthesia is required and only the stem cells are recovered from your blood.

In return, you are saving somebodys life. How could you go wrong with that? Your health is not in any danger but Mohans is in grave danger without your help. Please come & participate in the following drive and make a difference.

Please be informed that "NO MARROW WILL BE EXTRACTED ON THIS SUNDAY".
This drive is to collect the record, in case if anybody needs it. Only a blood sample will be taken, and later analyzed and kept in a central database. If anybody needs the marrow transplantation, they will find the match in the database and later the donor will contacted. On his decision they will extract the marrow.

If any Indian needs the transplantation, the donor has to be from the Indian subcontinent. So it becomes very critical to find the exact match.
