Oneindia is the only major horizontal portal, that develops its own south Indian vernacular sites. In the year 2000, when I suggested we start these channels many were skeptical about our move. I can confidently tell you all that our vernacular channels are doing very well, especially among NRIs. We have successfully bridged the missing link between NRIs and their motherland, a home away from home. Few small vernacular sites did exist when we started but our quality and strategy was far ahead of all other sites.

Oneindia has succeeded in this space because we do things differently and more importantly rightly. Our readers don't want to read a mere translation of our English content, instead they want authentic, original content related to their region. Our South Indian language channels have grown consistently not just in pageviews but revenues as well, to a level that justifies them to have their own identity.
