24 ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಆಸಕ್ತಿಕರ ವಿಶೇಷತೆಗಳನ್ನು ತುಂಬಾ ಮಂದಿ ಓದುಗಮಿತ್ರರು ಬರೆದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪತ್ರ ಬರೆದವರಿಗೆಲ್ಲ 24 ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು! - ಶ್ರೀವತ್ಸ ಜೋಶಿ.

On a lighter note – and quick one that I could get just after reading through this weeks vichitranna about the number 24.

In our college canteen, generally 4 of us used to go in group and have tea/coffee. Whenever there were girls around in the canteen, feeling hesitant to order two-by-four, we coined this concept of saying 24 tea (or 24 coffee based on mood). Canteen person understood it correctly as two-by-four. That’s a lot of importance for number 24 right, b’coz I remember lot of people used to get surprised that we 4 of us were ordering 24 tea/coffee – and we get 4 half cups in return!

One more: You have written this article in the year 2004. Considering that zeroes don’t have any value, even this year becomes 24. Hows that? :-)

It was interesting to read a nice discussion on 24. However, I have one question on a point made there. You mentioned there are 24 time zones split with a difference of 15 degree longitude. In which case there should have been time zones only in increments of 1 right? For Eg: if we start from GMT, there should have been GMT + 1 to GMT + 12 and GMT - 12. However India has GMT + 5:30, Can you explain this? Also, if I check my windows desktop there are more than 24 time zones, Would you like to explain this too?

ಒಂದು ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ಗಂಟೆ? ಎಂಬುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ವಿವರಣೆ:
