After reading about Orlando Vishwa Kannada Sammelana, I just couldnot NOT write an email about our recent trip to Orlando.
My husband was attending the American Society of Plant Biologists conference in July. Since it was in one of the Walt Disney World resorts, our daughter and I went along with him. Everything was fine until the return trip. We were flying out of Orlando international airport. Our 6:55 am flight was canceled due to bad weather in Dallas (our destination). It was 5:30 am. When my husband was waiting in the line to rebook our tickets in the later flight, our 15 month old daughter started running away towards the exit. I had to run behind her leaving our luggage behind. It was just a matter of seconds. When I came back to where our things were, all that was left was our daughters diaper bag and her stroller. Rest of the stuff (cameras, undeveloped film, video cassettes and everything we had carried to the trip)was gone. Some body took advantage of the situation and took off with our baggage.
Our daughters stuffed Mickey Mouse is the only object that remains to remind us of the almost perfect trip we had.
On the way to the resort, our cab driver had asked us if we knew what MGM stood for. He said it stood for Mickey Gets your Money (because of how expensive the Disney World is). In our case, Mickey did get all of our money.
The airport security personnel were not at all helpful. They were not even sorry for our loss. We were told that it happens all the time in some of the airports. Orlando happens to be one of them. I just want to take this opportunity to tell people who are visiting Orlando to be extra careful. Especially if they are traveling with small children. I believe these people work in groups just waiting for travelers to be distracted and all they need is less than a minute to carry out their operation. They probably were watching us for a while and saw that our little girl was getting sleepy and cranky and had been trying to break free from me. And seized the opportunity when that happened.
Be careful and be safe and have fun in Orlando. I could have written in Kannada using Baraha. But I do not have Baraha on this machine and I donot want to be late in getting this message across.
